What is the latest news about Microsoft and Gator?

Did Microsoft buy the gator folks?

David Sherman presented the following explanation :
How can you trust Microsoft's AntiSpyware program, if they own Gator/

Hi

I trust it but will also use other antispyware tools for removals.

There is no definition what spyware is and Lavasoft explains
TAC ranking in this way:

Main problem is that if MS leaves something open the bad guys
will directly follow this method for advertisment/hijacks to endusers.

Maybe time for MS and sit down and discuss browser standards again ?

Not yet. However, they are in talks to acquire Claria the
maker of Gator, Gain, Dashbar and DateManager among other
pleasantries.

Along with this, it has been confirmed that the latest MSAS
definitions have downgraded the recommended action against
these infections from quarantine to "ignore."

Further information and much speculation is at:

Frankly, for me this is the last straw. I will not be beta
testing this buggy product any more and intend to remove it
from my system.

The entire antispyware business is based on trust. This
action is beyond the pale and brings back memories of
Lavasoft selling out to WhenU and Hotbar.
