I've got a Gateway FMC-901 MCE PC. I just did a restore from the Gateway DVD
and have the system working, but I have no audio driver. There is a Sigmatel
driver on the DVD, but it does not function properly - the control panel
never works.

I've gone to Gateways support site, but they don't have a driver available
for download. The instructions on their website do not work with my DVD.

Does anyone know what chip is used for audio on this machine? Where can I
obtain the lastest complete driver?

Go here and D\load Everest Home Edition. Install\Run it, it`ll tell you all
about your
computers innards. You can then sort out your problem, based on what Everest
tells you.

Ugh, I might be years to late, but this took me way too long to figure out. The chip is a Sigmatel 9758, but it seems to be modified just enough by gateway to change the device ids. You can use regular Sigmatel drivers but you will only get sound of the front headphone jack. Using the pictures here http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/901_Series/2900090/2900090su44.shtml I figured out the version number at least an managed to figure out it was this driver from gateway even though it doesn't list it as being compatible. Search Gateway and where ever else you can for 9524859.exe . that is the right file, and the version number is 6.14.01.4175.
Hopefully, that saves some random person who tries to rebuild this machine a whole day
