geidiprime <--> switch <--> caladan
The connection is with RJ45 Cat 5e cable.

Arrakis connects to the internet with an Asus WL-330g.
internet <--> cable modem <--> SMC7004VWBR router
<--> WL-330g <--> arrakis

Again, the connections are with RJ45 cat 5e cable, with the exception
of
the connection between the router and the Asus WL-330g. The WL-330g, a
wireless ethernet adapter (NIC), connects to the 802.11b router
wirelessly.

The aim is to get all three computers connected to the internet :)

To this end, geidiprime has been selected as the gateway for arrakis
and
caladan. The WL-330g needs to be connected to geidiprime, either NIC.

However, I at this stage I just want to get geidiprime, alone, on the
internet via the WL-330g. Previous attempts have failed (see a
different thread).

Before caldan's hard drive "died" I used to periodically connect the
WL-330g to caladan. I'm not sure what I'm doing why I can't get
geidiprime to connect to the internet. (I'm reading up on ICS, but
don't want to enable that yet.)

I'm not sure how to proceed :(

thanks,

Thufir

In the past I've been able connect caladan to the

However, I'm not currently able to do so for
reasons which mystify me. Any thoughts?

From this I conclude that DHCP must be enabled for
the Asus WL-330g to connect correctly with the
router.

However, the IP address must be in 192.168.2.x
(x not equal to 1), I think...yes/no?

Thanks,

Thufir

Interesting. I booted arrakis with <http://www.gnoppix.org/> and was
able to do the following from gnoppix 1.0, in fact, this post is from
knoppix :)

I kept the Asus WL-330g powered on (plugged into the wall) and, I
guess, DHCP did the rest. This might be an alternate solution, if I
can get this on geidiprime. Or, even better, put both NIC's on caladan
and the live CD on caladan and let caladan be the gateway, as caladan
lacks a reliable hard drive.

I took the internal NIC from caladan and put it in arrakis, so that
arrakis and geidprime both have two internal NIC's. Caladan has no
NIC's and a crappy hard drive at the moment.
