We reported in the news yesterday that Google were looking to unseat eBay from it's top spot as an internet auction site. It now looks like Bill Gates of Microsoft intends to do the same to Google - concerning web-based searches. Gates recognises Google as a significant rival to Microsoft, but revealed that they have plans to reduce Google's dominance, which will take effect in the next six months.

Gates' ultimate aim is to beat Google through the use of better search technology. In a recent interview with the BBC, Bill Gates said he saw "Microsoft's strengths lying in search".

What will happen is as yet uncertain. What do know is that the next year will be very interesting, and there are likely to be some dramatic shifts of power between the big companies in the industry.

Hmmm, well I know which one I would "trust" and continue to use. ;)

:p

It amazes me as to why the likes of Google/MS/E-bay etc: try dominating the whole of the computing world, IMHO Google are the better of the search engines so why does BG want to muscle in on that for, XP still has its flaws as have all windows OS, so when he/they get that correct what then> another OS which will take years to perfect [well maybe] again. ITS NO GOOD PUTTING YOUR ARM IN A SPLINT IF IT’S YOUR LEG THAT’S BROKEN!!!!!

the bottom line is who benefits most not the customer that’s for sure.
