Garbage can icon is gone. How to get it back?

The garbage can icon has dissappeared from my desktop. How can I get it
back?

Yup. Fixing it is often easier than that though;

PowerToys for Microsoft Windows XP:

Grab TweakUI and install it. Under the desktop setting put a tick in the box
to show the recycle bin, if it's already ticked then untick it, apply, and
then tick it. That *usually* does the trick without needing to poke around
in the registry.
