So go to gmail.com and follow THEIR instructions for getting an account.
You won't get one unless you have a cell phone or get an invite.

I have a gmail account but i use the gmail installer to put an icon in the
notification area. This then automatically checks for emails and notifies
you when any arrive. You simply click on the icon in the notification area
to open up your web mail.

As for Windows Mail (outlook express has been rebranded Windows Mail) i'm
not to sure about. The problem lies in how Gmail access there server. If it
is POP and SMTP based then, yes you can use Windows Mail. If, on the other
hand, it is like Hotmail then the answer is No you can't use Windows Mail.
You can't even access Hotmail or other HTTP based web mail accounts via
Windows Mail, but you can via Windows Live Mail desktop. Rather confusing, i
know, but that's how Microsoft have made it.

if you are using a gmail account you can enter the details like any other
pop3 mail account.
pop server is pop.gmail.com,
smtp server is smtp.gmail.com.
Username is your full gmail email address and your password is as you set it
up on gmail.
If you want to send mail via gmail account, remember to tick the server
requires authentication box
 
sorry, forgot to put in previous post, in advanced tab the port numbers are:

outgoing (smtp) 465
incoming (pop3) 995

And what part of THEIR instructions on setting up an e-mail account in
Outlook Express did not work? They provide "emulated" POP3 and SMTP
servers but which work under most setups (but not all because of their
failure to correctly handle TOP versus RETR commands). While they have
client-specific instructions at:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/...uery=outlook+express&topic=&type=f&ctx=search

Those pretty much apply to all e-mail clients. All you really need from
those instructions are the server names, ports, and that you need to
enable SSL on those connects. While their auto-config tool might not
recognize all e-mail clients, just use the info provided in the manual
setup instructions.

I usually keep separate what defines a troll and what defines a stupid
and often lazy user. aftab can decide in which category he/she belongs
though I suspect the latter.
