I have an older game "Jeff Gordon XS Racing" that runs
fine on 98se.My question is: Do most of these older games
run ok on XP? If I do attempt to install it is it a good
idea to create my own restore point beforehand? (I
actually always do create one before I install any third
party software).I'm also familiar with compatibility mode.
And is it possible for games to actually mess up anything
by attempting to install them? Just curious.
Thanks

Hi Vince,

Games should not be able to alter Windows XP system
files during installation. Setting a restore point as you do
is a great way to protect yourself in the even that they did
however. There are however components that some games
install, a good example would be DirectX 9, which most
often reveal other problems that need to be corrected, for
example, an out of date video driver which is incompatible
with that version of DirectX, or even the game itself. :-)
