Well just their first page is out of date, Battlefield 2 and Civilisation
4 working here. 8-)

Half-Life 2 works and so does Sim City 4. I'm pretty sure someone reported
Prey as working too.

So take the list with a grain of salt. 8-)

"at this stage"
What stage is that?
Unless I missed it, there is no reference to a build number so we do not
what stage is referred.
Hardware configuration is also relevant and a change there can affect
playability.
There is much more to a computer than a video card.

I have seen at least one game work in a build, not work in the next and work
again in a later build.
The lack of specific information on that site reduces the value of the
information provided.

"Beta 2" is mentioned Mr Jones

Yes, but Beta 2 covers builds 5384, 5456, and 5472. Within that span I have
seen games that functioned under 5384 but not under 5472 and vice versa.

Yes, but the public are restricted to 5384, and the others are under a NDA
aren't they?.

There are certain groups that are under an NDA, and certain conversations
are under an NDA, and perhaps even certain parts of Vista in later builds
that are under an NDA (New Boot Screen, or startup music, for example), but
the builds themselves are not under an NDA. If you search this newsgroup,
you will find it is rife with references to the differences both in content
and usability between 5384 and 5472.

And build 5505 was just mentioned in the last couple of days here, although
I heard a rumour that RC1's build number is actually lower numerically than
5505, so even when it is released, probably soon, we, the poor, unwashed,
CPP masses, won't have the latest build.

"Nick White, the Microsoft product manager who announced the news about RC1,
says that he is personally using Build 5505, which is a newer one than RC1
will be using."

My favourite so far: Unknown device has been correctly installed.

The Technical Beta are free to talk about the various builds given to them
by Microsoft.
The limitations Beta testers have are limited more to information in the
private newsgroups and other private sources.

Game or program compatibilities of the various builds can be freely
discussed in these public newsgroups as is often done.
Go to the vista.games newsgroups for examples.

The value of that site would improve if the build and other relevant
information was also given.
I have little interest in that site but perhaps someone with an interest
could suggest to the owner adding the relevant details to improve the value
of the site..

TechBeta testers are not under any NDA. MS sometimes asks in the beta chats
that testers not post information given out until released by MS. That
usually means only a matter of hours (impending press releases). The
private chats are another matter, but only because those participants are
all under an NDA for one program or another already.

On the other hand, if you read the Vista Team Blog entry for August 10,
http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/
you see a reference to the writer using 5505 and a suggestion that it will
be available,
"I know you're excited. So am I -- and I'm using a newer build (5505) !
More news when it's available."

Now what will be available? News or 5505? Speculation is such fun!

Fair comments Jupiter.

And if you look very closely at the blog posting, it also is Nick White. I
believe Mr. White improperly wrote the blog, in that, there should have been
a new paragraph for "More news when it's available." And if we parse the
sentence, he did use proper grammar with the preposition "it" referring to
the subject "news" in the same sentence. So, after two cups of coffee and
some seriously mis-spent time and thought, I have come to the conclusions
that

1. RC1 will be a lower (numerically) build than 5505, and if 5505 is already
out at MSFT, RC1 will be right around the 15 August target that a few have
mentioned, and all us eager puppies are waiting on is prepping the servers
and pressing the discs.

2. Nick White needs to not post blog comments when he is this excited.

3. I need a better coffee maker (Katelyn makes it too weak!).

"I need a better coffee maker (Katelyn makes it too weak!)."

Sounds like discrimination ie stereotypical female coffee maker supplies
masculine Vista tester

More like partner gets up and goes to work and I don't. Get a grip.

My comments were meant in jest Mark.
Apologies if you took it in a more serious way.

Sorry if I took it wrong. I got my butt out of bed and made the coffee,
this morning, too, right before I did the ironing...
