Hi, I appear to have deleted all my games from my windows accessories file
(solitaire, minesweeper, spider and free cell) I don't have an SP2 disk and
so don't know how I can get them back. Can anyone help me please.

I have gone to control panel> add/remove components> selected accessories
but it comes up with error msg cannot copy files.

any insight will be appreciated thanx

I can't help you with why you are getting an error message when
using the 'System Optional Component Manager', but since the
actual files for the various games are in different locations i'm
making the assumption that it is just the shortcuts to start the
games that you may have deleted.

You may just have mistakenly drag-n-dropped the 'Games'-folder
containing the shortcuts into another folder.

If you can't find them you can, you can make new shortcuts for
the games you want to play as follows:

"%SystemRoot%\System32\FreeCell.exe"
"%SystemRoot%\System32\msHearts.exe"
"%SystemRoot%\System32\Sol.exe"
"%SystemRoot%\System32\Spider.exe"
"%SystemRoot%\System32\WinMine.exe"

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Pinball\Pinball.exe"

"%ProgramFiles%\msN Gaming Zone\Windows\BckgZm.exe"
"%ProgramFiles%\msN Gaming Zone\Windows\ChkrZm.exe"
"%ProgramFiles%\msN Gaming Zone\Windows\HrtzZm.exe"
"%ProgramFiles%\msN Gaming Zone\Windows\RvseZm.exe"
"%ProgramFiles%\msN Gaming Zone\Windows\ShvlZm.exe"

Thanx for your help, but i have wiped the games. I was doing a disk cleanup
and went to more options then didnt select the accessories check box in
component manager and so it wiped all the games and everything else in that
file.

Ok, sorry for my mis-assumption. Maybe someone in for example
'microsoft.public.windowsxp.general' has experience with errors
when (re-)installing WinXPs optional components.

Can you go to a former restore point? Can you download SP2 from Microsoft?

have tried restore point to no avail. have downloaded sp2 from microsoft but
did not do the trick. thanx

The games have nothing to do with Service Pack 2. Unless you are referring
to your Windows XP disk itself. If that is the case, then you have a
problem since you need with Windows XP disk to reinstall the games. You
would go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, then to Add/Remove Windows
Components and you can deselect the games, click Apply, then go back and
reselect the games, click Apply and the games will reinstall. However, it
will ask you to insert your Windows XP disk to reinstall the games.

The games should still exist on the hard drive, even if "removed" since
they're system files in Windows XP. If you remove them, or even delete the
actual files in Windows Explorer, on the next restart of the system, the
system automatically replaces them.

Thanx everyone. I have tried re-installing through components and restore
points...nothing and so I have done a complete system restore and they're
back. Now going through tedious process of reinstalling all my other
programmes. yay. ;)
