not long ago I installed nfs most wanted and related to this installed
newest directx and catalyst...
Since then games like nfs underground 2 and call of duty 2(and nfs mw
as well) crash while playing...
having fun about half an hour driving around or shooting people sound
begins stuttering and the whole system hangs...
the only help then is pushing the reset button...

my system is an athlon 1800+, 768 MB of ddr memory(d'nt know what kind,
different noname shit), my lovely 9700pro and a c-media 5.1 sound
system(sound card as well),running on windows xp pro sp2...
don't really know what to do cause nfsu2 and call of duty 2 worked fine
before installing nfsmw and newest dirvers...

tried reinstalling windows... didn't really work...

hopefully sombody might have an answer how to solve this...

thx...

Try to upgrade to at least a 9800 pro...relatively cheap nowadays.

With the catalyst drivers 5.12 and who knows earlier versions too, I could
not get Battle Engine Aqulia nor Gunmetal to run anymore. They worked when I
first installed the card with drivers they came with. The later driver
versions, it seems, is giving up some backwards compatibility.

Wait ,wait!
Are you seriously telling him to upgrade from a 9700Pro (which I also
have) to a mere 5-10% better 9800Pro ? :)

@hammington
My 9700Pro works fine with both the new Cats and nfs:mw so I haven't got
a clue on how to solve your problem. Sorry!

thx for the hint... but there must be a reason for those games
crushing... hopefully it's not my graphics card going to hell... cause
even if the 9800pro is relatively cheap, one at first has to have the
money in backpack ;)...

thx anyway...

try these http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=940 they work very
well on my 9700 and 9700pro

hey thx... seems to work for me too, didn't do a hardcore test jet, but
at least call of duty 2 doesn't seem to crash after playing about 10
min's(the last crash time was about 5 min's of play) so great thx for
this hint...

I had the same problem
only when i was running at a low resolution 800 x 600 so i increased the res
to 1028 x 768 an it worked great with no issues on an 9700 pro so play with
the settings it should work fine mind you i have a 2500 barton with 1 gig of
ram

ASUS a7n8x deluxe
2500 Barton (OC 2.02)
9700 pro
1 gig duel channel PC 3200
120 gig SATA

good luck

For what it's worth, I discovered that the latest cat driver that Battle
Engine Aquila will work with is cat 5.2, anything later and it causes a VPU
reset and the game hangs.
