I have a 1.2 athlon, 512DDR, 266mobo 4x agp, 9700pro. I am just wondering
why the beach levels on medal of honor and call of duty run so crappy. The
rest of each game runs smoothly, but omaha beach runs like crap, and the big
waterfront battle in call of duty runs like crap too. Why is this? Is my
9700 pro too weak to handle it, or what is it? I want them to run as
smoothly as the rest of the game.

Your 1.2 Athlon is too weak to handle it. You probably have too much eye
candy turned up. Your 9700 Pro is not the weak link.

CPU bottleneck, all the scenes you refer to are heavy on the CPU I would
presume. No problems in those titles with this 9700np (@351/324), but I
have an XP2500 (@220/X10). So why I presume it's a CPU bottleneck you
have there.

You're running a 9700 Pro on a 1.2ghz Athlon....what do you expect?

You need at least an AthlonXP 1900+ to really start using that 9700 Pro.

Your CPU is SLOW SLOW SLOW... You have a $400 video card... need to
get it a friend that can keep up....

Your motherboard should support up to the AMD 2600, especially with a
BIOS upgrade... make sure you get a NEW fan to go with it... retail
BOX CPU version will do.

While you're saving up for a new proc (I thought my old 1.4 t-bird was slow..
sheesh) you might consider that the sound card might have something to do with
it as well. That scene probably has quite a few sounds going all at once..
(16-32 separate channels) and that is also dragging your system down. I hate to
suggest it .. but just for kicks.. turn off the sound and play that level and
see what happens. I bet you get a major increase of FPS. Play with different
sound options.. eax 1 , 2, 3, software..etc.

You processor is pretty weak.. but I bet the sound has something to do with it
too.

What could i do about the sound problem? I wouldn't be surprised since i
have onboard sound, and it's not that great. If i got myself something like
an audigy 2, would that help do you think?

The Audigy 2 cards are top cards, and will take over any job from the
processor. Meaning that no matter howmany sounds a game wishes to
run... the card will do it. Leaving the processor for it's real job!

So yes, you'll find a great performance difference, then again... for
about 200 bucks you have a fully upgraded system with an NForce2/3
chipset, and the onboard sound on those is close to the Audigy 2.

Did you try the solution already? Just disabling sound in the game? If so,
did it work?

Thomas

PS. I use a Philips Acoustic Edge. Very nice soundcard, and costs only about
50 euro.

I tried to disable the sound card, but the game will not start up without it
enabled. I also tried disabling it, but keeping the drivers active so it
would start. It still wouldn't start. So, i tried simply changing from 44khz
to 11khz to see if it would make a difference. It didn't at all from what i
could see.
So i assume it is simply my CPU and motherboard holding me back. I was
thinking of getting a 3ghz P4 with an 800fsb mobo. Is there anything AMD has
to offer that would match or surpass that in performance?

er AMD 64bit... They have the fastest for the most part, on the
market... The problem is not your CPU itself, its just old. Your
board has DDR on it, so it should be at least a KT-266 so you can pop
in a faster CPU with little cost and hassle.... if its a KT266A you'll
have no problem with a $100 AMD 2600 CPU which will do wonders for
you.

PS: Windows config (Check your services), spyware, junkware,
stupidware (Quicktime / Real Audio / and other PROGS checking for
Daily updates for stupid reasons take up cpu/memory - disable these
function) can all add up as well.
