This used to work on my PC (microsoft Game Advisor for XP). Since I have an Intel Extreme Graphics card, I need this to work so I don't waste money on games that will not run correctly. Like I said, this used to work and now I get a message saying "sorry, unable to determine your hardware" or some message very similar to this. The only thing I did was buy a USB card reader and plugged it into a USB port to read my xD card for a digital camera. Windows configured it automaticaly when I plugged the thing in. It is not plugged in now. Do I need to plug it back into the USB port and run this again? I don't know how to get back here to view responces to this post. Also, I don't know how or if I can ask Microsoft about this without them charging $$$. I know I can upgrade my video card but I can't now.

Hi "cmccarle2000"

Here are some steps you can use to fix that situation:

1. Keep the USB card reader disconnected
2. Download Game Advisor from Microsoft
3. Uninstall Game Advisor from your system
4. Reboot
5. Install Game Advisor and it should work again.

I am a very, very newbie to computers. What file(s) do I need to find? This Game Advisor runs from microsoft under "gaming with XP" it does download something from Futuremark but when I click on "will it run on my system
I get that message about being unable to identify some hardware components and the only option it gives me is to go back to the games screen. I just don't know what to do except run a complete system restore from my HP restore disks and I really don't want to do that because I think I will lose everything I have put on this PC since I bought it

Hi CMCarle2000,

The Game Advisor installs in your temporary Internet files.
You should remove it to ensure you get a fresh installation
by clicking on Start / Control Panel / Internet Options, and
then click on the "Delete files..." button to delete offline files.

The USB device can be disabled before you run the advisor.
You can disable it in Control Panel / System / Hardware tab
\ Device Manager. Right click on the USB hub/controller in
question and disable. If that doesn't work, we'll try safe mode.

Carle, I don't think this issue is critical enough for you to need to
restore your entire computer from scratch for just one applet. :-)
Have you looked for a demo of the game to try before you buy?

I have deleted temp Internet files and it still will not run. I downloaded a Demo of Halo. I got a message saying were sorry your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, It gave me two options. Run in safe mode or Run anyway. I tried both and the game did work but the graphics were very bad. Halo for my Xbox (on my TV) has 100% better graphics then what I got on this computer

I was just wondering why this app will not run. Could I have deleted something it needs? I did upgrade Java from their Web site. I think MS's and Sun's might be running together, I don't know. Oh well, I can't play video games anyway. I can only play for awhile then they get to hard. I have Rainbow 6 3 for the Xbox and love that game but, I am to a point where I can go no further. Ubisoft (the maker) told me "None of their games will run on my system". Maybe I'll try to upgrade the video card someday soon. Do you know of any cheap ones that support all the modern games (DirectX 9, I think.) I am leasing this computer and I really don't want to put any money into it, if I don't have to. Option to buy it also by the way. The only bad thing I know about it is the graphics card and possible the Celeron 2.6MHz CPU. It is a HP Pavilion. Model #a414x. Thanks.

Hi cmccarle2000,

The card I suggest for budget minded gamers which will run
all the games is the one I use: a GeForce4 Ti4200 64 MB.
