'Gain' on line in

My line in recordings are very quiet, the only way I can get any sort of
volume is to use the microphone socket on the sound card with the boost
(gain) on.
Is there any way to boost the line in volume (all settings I can find are
set to max)??

Have you checked control panel, sounds and devices, volume tab, advanced
button and on right side 'line in volume'?
What is your input? Does it meet 'line in' specs?
