If you're anything like me, you'll find that if you download Windows Live
Mail Desktop Beta (ideas.live.com) that won't support networking either.

Yet the web browser works, and so does the e-Mail/Newsreader program that
comes with vista.

Any ideas?

My situation isn't as bad as I thought, but I still blame it on the Vista
setup program.

I installed about 2pm ET. Windows Vista Installer assumed I was in Pacific
time *to* *start*. So I changed my time zone to Eastern, and it moved my
preset time BACK to 11am (or something like that). I changed the time to
2:00 using the mouse or keyboard (whatever was natural at the time) but it
left the time as 2AM rather than 2PM.

The AM/PM difference prevented Windows Live Mail Desktop from authenticating
because of the time difference (I think that was the problem, anyway),
because now that I fixed the time Windows Live Mail Desktop beta works fine.

That can happen when the servers are down that host the actual weather-data,
remember all the Sidebar-applets are internet-based..

In such a case just try later again.

All Windows editions have always defaulted the timezone to Pacific. This is
not new to Vista.

But what is new:

By changing the time zone -- it changes the time..

Previous versions of windows, I am certain, did not do this.

In other words: My pre-install time was set to 2:00pm (1400 hours). It
presumed that was "pacific time", and it presumed that when I changed the
time to Eastern Time that I wanted to "fix" my system clock by 3 hours even
though the system (hardware) clock was right to the local time zone. It
changed my current time to 11:00 which would have been right if I had moved
my computer, but I had not, I was in eastern to begin with.

This is a fatal flaw, IMHO.
