Dear all

I have been researching local computer courses. The end objective is to be able to build my own computer but I obviously need to get to grips with the basics first. There are quite a lot of courses where I live (surprisingly!!) and I wondered whether anyone would mind having a look at the course spec for:

OCN Build and Mantain Computers Level 1.

It's over 30 weeks x 2 hours per week.

I am really excited and if it looks good to others I will be ringing up next week to get the course start dates cos I think September would be looking favourite!

I really won't be offended if people think this might be a bit out of my league!

Many thanks

it looks good

do u have ne1 near u that is good with pcs?

i think its good if u could pick up the phone and chat to a friend about this area
i have a few mates here that know their stuff better than me and i always seem to learn something from them!

I think that looks like an excellent course to start you off Gabriella....:D

It seems like your research has paid off and you have selected a course designed for complete beginners, which is exactly what you want...

An A+ course would have been to advanced for you at this stage but after completing this OCN level 1 course, you would then have the foundation for maybe taking things further if you wanted to and beginning the A+

Good luck to you....;)

Thanks Crazylegs and PSD!!

I had the feeling that this might be ok. I do have PC friends PSD but I think I am at the stage where I need to get some good basics in place supported by enquiring of others.

My other plan involves enrolling on an ECDL course before the OCN course as there are some 'gaps' in what I am able to do. So, I'm thinking ECDL straight away (that's literally down the road and has a rolling start programme, so no waiting) and then move on to the OCN couse with maybe a bit of overlap.

It's the people on this site that have got me thinking about taking things further and whilst the support and enthusiasm are great, there are challenges to trying to work things out/learn at a distance. I am quite quick to pick things up and could support my college learning with help from you guys and other people I know.

I shall be ringing up Doncaster College on Monday!!

Looks great Gabriella.
The course should give you a good grounding in compters. Some of the stuff you already know, but a lot you won't. And it does look quite well structured.
Just remember, we're all here to help if you need us, so you should have no trouble whatsoever.
I hope you enjoy it! :)

Thanks for your feedback Cacheman nd Flops!

I've emailed Doncaster College for the start dates/locations etc..... and will follow up with t/c next week.

Hey Gabriella--- can I call you Gabby??

Any ways, course looks good. It is exactly what you'll need to build a pc. No way is it out of your league. The reqirements are basically literacy and common sense. Also please realise as though that course will teach you how to build a pc, once you enter the world of modding, some creativity will be needed. Though I am sure you are well prepared.
-Good Luck

Thanks Raje!!

Please call me Gabby, that's fine!!

I have been really touched by people's encouragement and kind words about my prospective PC course. Thank you for your contribution, it's really kind of you!

I can't wait to get started to be honest.

Thanks again

Awesome Gabs - should be great fun, meet new people and learn some new stuff!

Best of luck - i'm sure you'll do great! Any help needed - you know where to come.

Thanks Chris - really kind of you!

BTW have you been away, it seems like you have been 'quiet' of late??

What do you reckon about the ECDL course first?? (Won't be offended which ever way you think!!)
