Can someone please help me. My GA-8Ik1100 motherboard will not boot
after attempting to setup the USB ports/cable from my computer case.

The cases USB ports cables have two 1*5 connectors, one for each USB
port. The 1st connector consists of VCC, USB1+, USB1-, GND and GND.
The 2nd one consists of VCC, USB2+, USB2-, GND and GND.

I connected both cables to the yellow Front IEEE 1394 connector
labeled "F USB1". When I booted my system everything was
fine but when I plugged my Cruzer micro 512 MB USB drive into the
computer cases USB port the monitor went blank and I have not been
able to boot up since.

Any ideas what is going on?

There is a picture of a burned chip here. If your motherboard
will no longer boot, expect the damage to be this bad.

If the USB port is dead, but the computer still boots and runs
normally, there will likely not be a burn mark on the Southbridge,
but it would still be burned inside.

If the motherboard has a warranty, get the board repaired.

And do not use the USB headers on the motherboard, when the
motherboard is returned to you. Plug your Cruzer into a rear
port, or better yet, purchase a USB2 PCI card and use that
for the Cruzer. A USB2 card costs $10 and is a cheap way to
protect your motherboard from this problem.

WOW! What a tough lesson to learn from. Both links are right o
target. Gigabyte acknowledges the problem. I have posted this issu
with their tech support and hope that the MB is covered unde
warranty

Thanks Paul very much for your quick response

It seams you and I have very similar problems. The difference is I go
the mother board from a friend and have no clue why it is the way i
is. Was it a fried chip problem with yours

Apparently so. I had to send the MB to Gigabyte. Luckily it was stil
under warranty and was repaired free of charge. I installed it and i
is working fine. Fortunately there was a happyman ending to thi
story

Good luck
