Hi all,

I have one 200G SATA HD and a DVD burner. It worked originally and
there are three IDE, 4 SATA in the motherboard.

The original way it was set up
200G on SATA 0. DVD on IDE 0

I tried to put 2 old harddisks(one master and one slave) in IDE 0. None
of these harddisks were regonized. Therefore, I put these two old disks
to IDE 0. Both of them were recgonized this time. However; the DVD is
not seen in the BIOS anymore. I already set the jumper to SLAVE for the
DVD.

I tried differnet IDE2, it does not work.

Can anyone tell me how to set it up? I know nothing about SATA, make me
very confused since I only know how IDE works.

Thanx in advance.

Your motherboard has three IDE connectors.

IDE0 connects to the Intel ICH7 Southbridge. That connector has the
most "normal" response. Connect your optical drives (DVD/CD) to IDE0.
Remember to configure the jumpers on the drive correctly (master/slave
or use cable select for both devices on the chain - ask if you need
more help). The IT8212 may not be completely happy with the CD or DVD
connected to it.

IDE2 and IDE3 connect to the IT8212 chip. In the BIOS, on the Integrated
Peripherals page, there is a "GigaRaid" function. Set it to "ATA".
Connect your ribbon cable hard drives to either IDE2 or IDE3, as you
would with a normal IDE interface. Remember to configure the jumpers.

When you boot into Windows, you'll need to install a driver for the
IT8212, in order to see the hard drives. If you are installing a
Windows OS on one of the hard drives, you'll need to press F6 during
the install process, and install the IT8212 driver.

If your operating system is already on the SATA drive, and you are
able to boot from the SATA drive, then you can install the IT8212
driver, while you are in Windows. After a reboot, the drives on the
IT8212 should show up.

For a driver for the IT8212, you can get the latest one here:

http://www.iteusa.com/software_download/software_download2.asp
http://www.iteusa.com/product_info/file/pc/8212DrvAP_094036-01.zip

The last page of this manual, mentions that for non-RAID operation,
you still need the driver. Without the driver, disks on IDE2 and
IDE3 will not be seen.

As far as the model number of your motherboard goes - is GA-8I945P
the whole number ? I had some trouble finding it on the Gigabyte
site. I hope the above information is correct, as I'm not positive
I have the right board. The above is my best guess as to what is
needed.

HTH,
Paul

Hi Paul,

GA-8I945P-G is the whole number.

Thank you so much for your reply.
My OS boots up from SATA disk. I connected DVD and old HD to IDE0
finally. It looks like BIOS treat SATA as a IDE. Confused?
