By "g1000" do you mean the distance readout on the Garmin GPS? The
display on the GPS has noting to do with what radio navigation aide you
tune into with the navigational radios. To get a distance on the GPS
display you need to be on a leg of a flight plan that is active in the
GPS OR using the "direct to..." that particular navigational point function.
For the DME display on the radio stack, tune on of the navigational
radios to that DME station's frequency and select that radio with the
switch on the radio stack's DME display. Note that some VORs don't have
DME capability and that ther are some DME stations that aren't at VORs.
