G Network tuning question

I have two HP Laptops running Vista Home Premium, connected to a Microsoft
MN-700 (g) router. Both laptops have a 4965AGN adapter.

I have good performance for my DSL-based internet connection, but when I
make file transfers between the laptops, or between a laptop and a NAS that's
also connected to my router, the speed is cap'ed at about 1.6 MB/sec.

I expect the network speed to be much better, closer to the limits of (g)
networks. My wireless quality is excellent, and my router/adapters are in (g)
mode. Can you recommend a way to increase this speed? Is there a parameter
that "caps" a network connection?

Hi
I do not know which NAS you use, and whether or se wire or Wireless for
transfer.
However, almost all Entry Level NAS have Speed problem and they are
Slowwwww...
A computer with WHS and Giga card is usually a much better solution.
Jack (MVP-Networking).

I don't think it's the NAS (which is a Linux-based HP MV2120). I had the
exact same problem when I was connected to an XP-based desktop using the same
router connection. Also, when I connect the two laptops via the MN-700 router
(without NAS), the network connection is always "caped" at 1.6 MB/sec...

the MN700 was not known for its speed. (and on the wireless side it
could not even get certified for WPA2 because it was too slow). it
is also 10/100 on the wired side.

get yourself a better router. a reasonable cost one is a DIR-655
from DLink. there are others. note that there is no guarantee that
the draft 2 N routers will be upgradeable to the final standard
(just as there are no guarantees that your Intel wireless draft n
card will be upgradeable.

make sure you have the latest drivers for the Intel wireless NICs
too.

Also, when I connect the two laptops via the MN-700 router
(without NAS), the network connection is always "caped" at 1.6 MB/sec...
