Symantec took over Sygate. Symantec kills the free firewall. How sad, but
true to form!

You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

Yes, that is sad. I suppose if you want to boost sales of your own shoddy,
overpriced product, then you have to buy up those offering better freebies
and then kill 'em off.

I wonder what will happen to the millions of people who have the free
firewall on their systems.
Nothing. The firewall won't stop working just because Symantec bought
Sygate. Users just won't have any updates to it, but unless someone
finds a vulnerability in the program that won't matter.

Half will use Zone Alarm & half will give in to Symantec. Symantec wouldn't
do it if it didn't benefit them financially.

Just to add my 2 cents worth.
I suggest that anyone using this (like I am) turn off the feature to look
for updates, I don't trust Symantec not to provid one more update that may
include a timebomb.(Remember jv16 powertools?).

I'm sure Symantec will make it a top priority to find a suitable
vulnerability, to encourage people to "upgrade".

True. A firewall is really a simple program. Now is a good time to
re-distribute the free version.
