All,
I just read some posts about getting the 0x8024002b: unable to complete
update error upon installing Defender. Well, I got that here, and it turned
out to be another Norton-related hiccup (Internet Security and AV). After
Defender installed, I soon discovered Norton was, pardon my highly technical
jargon, "messed up".
The Norton tray icon was messed up, with the AV selections on the
context menu missing. I have the internet security/firewall set up for fully
manual program configuration, and it was failing to pop up the dialog box
that allows you to allow or deny when a new program attempts to access the
internet.
This was the reason the Defender update failed. Norton was blocking it
but wasn't popping up the box to allow. <sigh>
I was fearful that Norton was once again hosed and my XP install was
going to be crippled, but luckily after a reboot everything seems to be
working. I got the pop-up box to allow the Defender process internet access
and the update went fine.
