"Important Information for Software Firewall Users" says
to permit:
1. MicrosoftAntiSpywareMain.exe (the primary Microsoft
AntiSpyware application)
3. MicrosoftAntiSpywareUpdater.exe (provides
functionality to update the latest spyware definitions)

My system still has GIANTAntiSpyware*.exe for both.

What version are you running? Check Help > About
Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware...

I have 1.0.615 installed and ZoneAlarm Pro lists the
processes under Microsoft AntiSpyware, not
GiantAntiSpyware. Yo might want to see if your firewall
lists both GiantAntiSpyware and Microsoft AntiSpyware,
since it might still show a reference to GiantAntiSpyware
from an older version of MSAS.

Alan,

You need to look a little harder.<g>

Check the program folder and you *will* find it's still GiantAntiSpyware.
Even some programs shown as Microsoft are still Giant programs if you check
the internal name under properties.

Yes I know that.

What I was getting at is the company name, not the
interal name, is Microsoft Corporation.

Even though the internal name and file name of
GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe and GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe
are linked to Giant Company, ZoneAlarm uses the
description, Microsoft AntiSpyware Main and Microsoft
AntiSpyware Updater, respectfully for displaying the
program's name.

Earlier versions of the beta didn't have Microsoft
AntiSpyware Main and Microsoft AntiSpyware Updater for
their description.

It doesn't matter what name you give a file, the firewall
uses the description encoded in the source code. You
could create a program called 'Jack's all-you-can eat
buffet' but the description is 'Microsoft AntiSpyware
Main' and the firewall will use Microsoft AntiSpyware
Main as the name of the program.

Right now MS is more concerned about improving the
reliability and effectiveness of the application at
detecting and removing all traces of spyware/malware than
they are with removing references to the former producer
of the application.
