FYI: Cascading Style Sheet Compatibility in Internet Explorer 7

Thanks for the info Tom! Any other IE7 issues you've heard about? What
about the issue people seem to be having with being prompted for a user name
and password when opening localhost webs? Have you installed IE7 yet?

Dave

Visit the IE General newsgroup, where they are handling IE 7 issues ;-)
(some web-related, and other nightmares)

I've seen some mention there about the prompt, but no resolution.

And no, I have not installed IE7, nor will I until SP1 is issued.

David,
I downloaded IE7 the other night. Experienced the login problem with both FP
& EW.
Here's how I fixed it (dunno if this is kosher) but it works:

In IE7;
Tools | Internet Options | Security | Local Intranet | Sites | Advanced and
added localhost to the list.

There appears to be no problem with disc-based access (duh).

IF what I have done is a no-no, please let me know!

Rob
So far I like IE7, no real problems yet.

There are some upset webmasters, because IE7 is rendering their sites
differently than IE6, and they're looking at some rebuilds.

Broken, or just different?

I think Nov 2 is gonna be interesting - the ngs will probably light up.

IE7 will not roll out all at once. MS is doing it in stages over a period
of several months. Plus, it requires human interaction to install.

I'm waiting as well. Can't wait to see all the questions / problems with
the way sites render in IE7, especially the CSS ones.

There are some upset webmasters

I think, that if they were web*masters*, they wouldn't have as many
problems. And generally, if they have have problems in IE7, they likely have
the same problems in other modern browsers - excluding problems caused by
the inevitable bugs in IE7.

I do feel a little sorry for the folks who only had IE6 as a target though -
intranets etc..

Not like this is a big surprise or anything.

MS has been saying for months that people should take out or fix the IE6
hacks they had, because IE7 would probably break them

In those cases it is likely they used various hacks for IE6 and that
now come back to bite them because IE7 doesn't need these hacks.
One of the more popular is the hack for position: fixed which IE6
doesn't understand but IE7 does.
In most cases what they need to do is to check specifically for IE6
(or below). That will require a little rewrite of some of the hacks
because the original scripts didn't take into account that one day
there would be a new version of IE.
