Hi - wondering if anyone else has this weird date thing
going on. My spyware scan summaries list 7 scans run on
October 4, 2005, which obviously hasn't occured yet
seeing as todays date is Sept. 26, 2005. I actually
noticed this a week ago. Also my scans are set to run
every day, but every 5 days or so the scans stop running
automatically. anyone else have these issues?? Also,
what do you think happens on the real October 4th??

Have you checked your computer's date?
Double click the time on the taskbar.

Check your current date and time, as Frank Saunders' recommends.

In addition go to the settings for your language/locale, and check the date
and time formats.

Set each to the topmost setting in the dropdown box--which I believe is the
default.

One thing that will likely happen if your settings remain as they are is
that the program will expire on an unexpected date.

--my computer date settings are correct.

Dates can become corrupted without any notice.

I work at a discount supercenter and noticed this first-
hand. One of the PCs on our self-checkout lanes lost its
connection to the self-checkout's main PC and our support
pesonnel had no idea what caused it. When they called
the support line for the self-checkout, they were told to
check the system date on that PC. Turns out the PC said
the year was 2024, as best I can recall, and yet the year
was only 2002. No one had even opened the access door to
the PC, let alone changed the date settings.

I've seen an instance in a newsgroup recently where Windows consistently
showed a date 30 years in advance of the actual date. The bios appeared to
show the correct date.

Changing the CMOS battery fixed the issue.

Thinking about this, my theory about the fix is that the bios date is passed
to the OS via a specific communications area in the bios--and a bit in that
area was failing due to the bad battery.

It was pretty strange--replacing the battery seemed the only simple thing to
do--they'd already done a repair install of Windows--but it wasn't clear why
doing that would fix the issue--but it did.

All that I can suggest is that you still need to ascertain whether your long
and short date formats are set to the defaults for your locale.

If they are not, experience shows that strange things will happen--and what
you are seeing qualifies as a "strange thing" in my book.

If you check those formats and tell me that they are set to the default
topmost settings in the dropdown box controls, then I'm at a loss to
explain--but perhaps something was awry in the past and is now fixed?
