FUSTRATED: windows mail will not send with AOL 9.0

I have tried everything and I have looked at other peoples posts and I just
cant figure it out. I have a new laptop with Windows Vista and I am trying
to use Windows Mail with AOL 9.0. I can get my mail just fine but I can not
send mail at all!. Please does ANYONE know how to configure the settings? I
am so fustrated! I want this to work! Thank you kindly...
 
Stacey, also new laptop with Vista....had trouble getting Gmail to work this
morning...finally went to Tools/ accounts, selected account, and went to
advanced....found two places to check my server requires secure connection
and that did the trick......first time I have ever needed to go there.

I also was able to import my OE addressbook to the contacts, BUT I am unable
to get them to sort the way I prefer which is by last name, versus first
name.

I am still trying to figure how to bring over my email files......

Hope this helps......good luck with it......advice is only worth what you

I dont know if I am udating this correctly.. I am new to groups :-).. I have
called AOL.. and HP.. Microsoft wont help me unless I pay $60.. That is why I
am turning to this group to see if anyone can help me figure out this
fustrating problem with setting up my WINDOWS MAIL on my new HP laptop with
VISTA & AOL 9.0. If anyone out there knows I really would be greatful... I
can get mail I just cant send it out... Thank you..

Any errors generated when sending. If so can you post them. Meanwhile try to disable your Anti Virus and Spam Filtering email scanner for incoming and outgoing mail and test. You will still be protected
 
To configure your AOL or AIM e-mail in the Windows Mail software:
1. Click the Tools menu, then click Accounts....
2. Click the Mail tab.
3. Click imap.aol.com or imap.aim.com to highlight it, then click the
Properties button.
4. Click the Servers tab.
5. Click the My server requires authentication box to place a check mark in
it, then click the Apply button.
6. Click the Advanced tab.
7. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): box, type 587, then click the Apply button.
8. Click the IMAP tab.
9. Click the Store special folders on IMAP server box to clear it, then
click the Apply button.
10. Click the OK button.
11. Click the Close button.
