I'm running Word XP on Windows XP, and the fonts on display in Word look
fatter and clunkier than they used to when I was running Windows ME. If
I start to edit a sentence on the screen, that whole sentence will
re-style the font so that it looks as slender and graceful as it used to
on ME, but as soon as the screen refreshes (if I go down them back up
the document, for instance), the fonts become plump again. I've
experimented with the font smoothing settings in Windows XP, but nothing
seems to have an effect on Word. Any idea what might be happening?

If you are in Normal View, you may have selected Draft Fonts under Tools,
Options, View tab.

Otherwise you may need to update either your Graphics driver and/or printer
driver.
