Hi
this is quite a common question. Try doing a Google search and you'll
find a lot macros/tips. Below a short list for this topic:
MS Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;140704&

Free Addin MOREFUNC-DLL which includes a UDF for this task (for various
languages):

or have a look at
http://www.bygsoftware.com/examples/zipfiles/num2wrds.zip
It's in the "Accountants" section on page:
http://www.bygsoftware.com/examples/examples.htm
It contains two methods

I am a newbie to Excel.I want to know the following things.

1.Is there any inbuilt function to convert an amount in numerical format to
amount in words (for ex,1144.56 to Thousand one hundred and forty four
dollars and cents fifty six) ?

2.Is there any way of making the formulas in a excel worksheet permament
(formulas get deleted when you delete data)so that they can be used as a
template.

3.Is there any way of building custom functions for performing the above
mentioned tasks?

On a copy of the wotksheet..........

2. Select all cells with CRTL + A.

Edit>Go To>Special>Constants. Check/uncheck option buttons to get what you
want to select. Ok your way out.

Edit>Clear Contents.

Formulas will remain. Save As>Template(*.xlt)

Use the Macro Recorder while you go through the steps.
