Function to find a number

Hi there

If your results table is located in A1:E3 and your lookup
table is in A7:G9 (both including titles) then the
formula to put in E2 (the Points cell for Index 1) would
be

=HLOOKUP($D2,$B$8:$G$9,2,FALSE)

You can copy and paste that formula down the Points
column.

Hi Julia,
Update on Golf Spreadsheet Function

The last message was a bit garbled because it did not
actually post the message as i had typed it, so i have
actually named the cells in my spreadsheet together with
a description. Please see below:

What i am trying to do is is put a function together so
that will access cell G9 and compare this value with
cells B33:G33 which contain different values and put the
matching value into cell H9

I would have attached a zip file of my spreadsheet but i
cannot fins a way to do in this forum.
