Hi, I have 2 questions:

1)how do I get the text to appear after I used the Proper
function formula? (It shows =PROPER(A1) instead of text.)

2)after I merge the file from Excel to Word, what do I
need to do to show the decimal value (e.g. $7.00). Thanks
for your help.

Question 1 - If you mean that the cell is showing =PROPER(A1) rather than
the result of the formula, then the cell is probably formatted as text.
Format as General then click in the formula bar as if you are going to edit
the formula then just hit enter. That should resolve that issue.

Question 2 - You need to use numeric switches. You can try looking in the
help file or perhaps posting this question in the microsoft word mail merge
newsgroup. The reason is that although it may look fine in Excel, the
underlying data, which is what is merged into Word, is not formatted. Using
numeric switches in the Word merge field help format the merged data. I
wish I could help more on this one, but it's been a while since I've done
it.

Michael, I tried it but it doesn't work. It still show
=PROPER(A1) rather than the result. Any other suggestions?

Please help. Thanks.
