full version or upgrade

Hi,
a simple question:
can I use the full version of Windows XP to upgrade a PC
with Win98? Or is the full version ONLY for PCs without an
OS or for a clean install?

Thanks.

As long as it's a retail copy of XP Pro Full you can do it. OEM copies do
not have an upgrade opition.

Yes. However you can *not* use an OEM version, which some people
confuse with the Full version.

Provided it is a proper *retail* Full copy, and not one of the 'OEM'
ones 'for supply only with a new computer' then it will do an upgrade
too. The only difference between Full and Upgrade is that the setup on
Upgrade wants evidence of a qualifying product - so if you want to do a
clean install, you either need to previous system on hard disk (and
arrange to format the disk during setup, run from it), or have a retail
copy on CD to show when asked. Provided you can come up with such
evidence, save your money
