Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a way to boot directly to terminal services?
The idea is that the computer starts up and the first thing that appears is
the TS (2003) login.

I just about have it for win98 - by using
http://dev.remotenetworktechnology.com/ts/win9xstation.htm (- thanks
Patrick) but changing the shell for all users in win2k or > is a bit tricky.
Whilst I have not done it yet I can see it is possible to totally lock
myself out.

Thanks

Peter

Peter, if there was I would have told you. There is no built-in way to
replace the Explorer Shell with mstsc that works well. Your best bet is to
load a linux distribution on these machines that's made to do what you're
wanting. This does however remove your 2000 TSCAL that you'd receive from
the built-in pool if connecting to a 2000 TS.

Thinstation, PXES & F.Boot are the most common methods to change PCs into
thin-clients.

Patrick,

I tried the win98 and I think it will work for what I need. I am now looking
to extend it to Win2K. My thought was to modify the system.adm with the
appropriate key HKLM...\winlgon shell etc and then apply GPO's with a domain
logon (This means that the admin will always get explorer). However this
process left me with the dual log on.

The actual environment is a primary school. They no longer want to continue
replacing their hardware and are looking for a cost effective solution. As
you can appreciate there are many users on each client and they vary in
skills from almost none to a little bit dangerous!

I have almost got a working setup -in my test lab but am trying to look for
any tolls that might make it easier for the kids. I have a CD/DVD sharing
software which runs under TS.

I have struck on one rather odd issue - I created a user which had some
problems with folder redirection - my typing in fact - and though I have
deleted their profile each time I log on with this user the TS server
crashes. I have 2 other users in the the same OU and group that I created
after I fixed the typing prob and they are fine. Any clues?

Regards,

Peter
