Hello All,
I have been pursuing a full reinstall of my component database in
order to prove to our test guy that we have captured everything needed
to recreate our XPE toolset.
So, that means:
* Install SP1 Databse
* Install QFE 811279 "Repository look-up may cause incorrect files to
be copied"
* Install SP1 MUI components (12 SLDs and 3CDs worth)
* Install SP2 Database Update
* Install SP2 MUI updates (23 separate installers (automate w /Q /L))
* Install FP2007 Database Updates
* Install FP2007 MUI resources (4 separate installers)
* Install Update Rollup 1.0
* Install the August 2007 cumulative update.
* Reinstalling all my custom components. (Automated w/XPECMD! - Nice)
With the problems I had with SQL Server 2008 I have spent nearly 20
hours so far.
Anyhow, after installing all of this, I go to rebuild my latest
configuration and find several errors, which were corrected by
installing the following updates:
SP1 Q841185 Patch
SP2 August 23 2006 Critical update.
FP2007 December 2007 Updates
August 2008 Optional Updates
So after a day and a half of reinstalling, it appears that the
"Cumulative Updates" were not complete. I would REALLY appreciate a
simplified installation process here.
Also, I wonder, how can I be sure that some other in-between update is
not needed. Since I started with XP Embedded just before SP2 came out
there have been approximately 50 monthly critical and optional
updates. I am wondering if I should not just apply every single one
of them to be sure that I have everything.
What would (KM / Slobodan / Liming ) do?
Are there any comments from Microsoft? Lynda Allen?

P.S. - I now have a nice "Virgin Database" backup, current to August
2008.
P.P.S - the test guy was right - we absolutely needed to do this.
