I ran system restore several times, and now have no space left on the hard drive. A file 'System Volume Information' now occupies over 15 GB of space. How can I recover the lost drive space.

System Volume Information contains, among other things,
all your restore points. Use system restore to delete
some restore points, and the space will be reclaimed.

Alvin,

It's time to clear out old System Restore snapshots to recover hard disk space. Use Disk Cleanup and purge all system restore points except the last point. Click Start/Run/Cleanmgr / More Options / system restore /cleanup.

If,and only if,your computer is running ok,go in system
properties and turn system restore off, then reboot and go
back and turn system restore back on.This will CLEAR ALL
restore points, but will give you some drive space back.I
would then go back in system properties and at least make
one new restore point, and while your at it,move slider
back to use less disk space for system restore.

.......Good luck.

It worked. I set a new restore point and the 15 GB of disk space was freed. Thanks for the help.
