Full address = Email address???

Having imported into Outlook 2000 the addresses from Outlook Express 6
Address Book, they are displayed in the Contacts folder only with their full
name - twice that is, as in the email field underneath the full name is
displayed again.....

Clicking on a contact, the details-card opens up and the email address
appears to be imported correctly.

However, adding a contact via the Outlook menu, the full name and email
address are displayed properly.

Anything I did wrong on import? Some setting I have to adjust in the Add.
Book before importing? Can't find anything in Contact settings, View etc.

Beats me....

Thanks!

Clarify the view and the field to which you are referring.
Specify which version of Outlook 2000 you are using.
You have no control over the Email Display As field when you import
Contacts.

View: clicking on the Contacts 'Rolodex' > default view;
Fields: "Full name" is black text on grey background; "Email" is black text
on white.

There is no such view in any current version of Outlook.
9.0.0.2711 is the same as Outlook 2000. I asked you to specify which version
of Outlook 2000 you are using. That requires the first 2 lines of Help |

Russ,

As a picture says more than my words, have a look at these screenshots of:
Contacts (at email field you see the full name, duplicated, so to speak);
Help - About (version) info.

They are at this page:

Thanks,

Ick. How did you do this import? It looks like none of your fields were
populated correctly.

As said, imported addresses from Outlook Express - address book.wab that is.

They are actually imported correctly: have a look at the contact card. Weird
thing is that contact email address is underlined. Doubleclicking on it
reveals the actual email address in edit mode.

See the added screenshots at this page: http://www.troisj.com/outlook.html

Also, this is the case on two different machines: one Win 98 SE, the other
XP. As said, newly added addresses (via the contact > New button) are
displayed as desired....

I know you imported from the WAB.
What I asked was how. List the steps you used.
Why do you say they were imported correctly if neither the name nor email
display as fields is correct?
You are using a version of Outlook that is no longer supported and never
used the Outlook Address Book engine. Check the settings you have for
sharing in the WAB.

Imported via 'Import-Export' under the file menu. It appears that in that
dialog only OE 4 & 5 are mentioned, not 6.0, so probably it is the version
issue as you pointed out.

I found the way to do it: export from WAB into txt\csv file and then import
the file into Outlook. Fields are mapped correctly, email address is
displayed correctly now.

Problem solved!

Thanks for your time!
