Report on the news of possible fuel protests around the UK.
Just a heads up if you need to fuel up!

I can remember the protests of '73.

They didn't do a lot of good and neither will these ones.

Just bend over and administer the novocaine as this goverment royally causes you a great deal of pain.

I think it's possible we pay the highest rate of tax on vehicle fuel than anywhere else in the World.

And of course, being British, we accept it :)

Not quite, but close.

A while back -

Fuel itself 45.93p
Duty 58.19p
VAT (20%) 24.78p

TOTAL 128.9p

So, the duty plus the VAT work out as 181% of the cost of the fuel itself. I'm surprised there haven't been riots before now ! VAT is, of course, charged not only on the fuel but on the duty as well - a tax on a tax ! On the above figures, by my reckoning, the VAT should be less than 24p but these are officially quoted figures and I'm not sure where the extra comes from. :o

And, as we all know, prices have gone up further since those figures. :(

But, even so, a 181% tax is just outrageous.

Seems not enough people turned up to protest said one sunday paper last week. Whoever is in power will tax fuel to the hilt, if they dont get us through fuel duty they would only hike up income tax by 2 or 3 pence, would people protest over that?
