Vista in general is starting to suck!!!! I am willing to bet that the
brainiacs that thought up this operating system do not have it installed on
their personal pc's.
We just purchased a new computer and had no choice in the operating system
installed on it.
Asside from the multiple e-mail addresses issue and the fact that no other
software is compatible and we cannot have another version of windows
installed, we spent alot of money for WHAT?? you just keep tellin folks to
contact everyone else but all the trouble revolves around YOUR OPERATING
SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!
This isn't fair to anyone that just shelled out alot of money on a nice PC.
How do we fix this? This is NOT an issue for other manufacturers or software
providers, they didn't create Vista or windows "wish you had" mail.
No need to reply if you plan on placing the blame elsewhere or blowing smoke.

You are the one blowing smoke. No other software is compatible? I guess that
millions of people are just using their computers with what came with Vista.
Funny as how I have about 40 programs that I loaded onto my computer. Last
time I looked, they were all functional. I guess you didn't do any homework
before you spent that small fortune on a new computer.

Now that your rant is over, why not ask specific questions, instead of
making questionable statements.

We would be glad to assist you, though you may not like all the answers.

Okay heres one:
Firefox for some reason absolutly sucks on Vista. The program is slow and I
can't use it. But that is besides the point.

I am now running Windows mail (What the heck happened to Outlook???)
I can't import my firefox emails into windows mail, so i downloaded Netscape
messenger, and converted these files to .snm's

now I can't import .snm's. BUT outlook can!!!! AND WINDOWS MAIL CAN IMPORT
OUTLOOK! YAY!

but when I try to download outlook 6 I CAN'T BECAUSE A NEWER VERSION OF
INTERNET EXPLORER IS ALREADY INSTALLED ON MY MACHINE.

ok, so uninstall internet explorer and install the older version and get
outlook. Then convert the .snm's, and import into windows mail.

YOU CANT UNINSTALL INTERNET EXPLORER!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F***!!!

Does anyone know how to get my old emails from thunderbird into windows
mail???

:(

In my previous post I said "firefox" by accident when I was referring to
"thunderbird" the whole time

I figured it out.

http://216.109.125.130/search/cache...rbird+email+eml&d=JQpSDhIeOTLH&icp=1&.intl=us

get this program: mbx2eml

http://home.arcor.de/luethje/prog/

extract it
go to start, run....

type

(make sure you have the exact directory to mbx2eml ... in my case it was
C:\Users\Grant\Contacts\Desktop\eml thing\mbx2eml)

Command: mbx2eml <file specification> <output directory> [options]

( Example: C:\Users\Grant\Contacts\Desktop\eml thing\mbx2eml
C:\Users\Grant\Contacts\Desktop\mail\recipes c:\temp\ /i /d )

Sent does not have a file name extension, cuz thunderbird saves the files
this way.

it will now convert all email to .eml files and you can just easily drag
them into your Windows mail inbox folder

Firefox on this very same computer running XP absolutely sucks on loading.

Things changed, some for good, some for bad.

Well, the rest is pretty useless info so I'll skip it.

How about this, Mercury Mail Server. Got this idea from Norman awhile back
I think it was. It's free. You set up Mercury Mail on your computer which
means the mail will be on your computer.
Create an IMAP server.
Connect Thunderbird to the IMAP server.
Copy the mail to it's folders. IMAP stores the mail in it's mailbox on the
server.
Set Windows Mail up for IMAP and copy those into it's folders then copy them
to the local database.

Problem solved.

LOL, it's posts like this that make me think this newsgroup should be named
Nuthouse for the Technologically Insane. What issue with multiple e-mail
addresses? You can have all the e-mail addresses you want.

I think the MVPs here should get a vacation house in the Hamptons and a
Porsche in addition to that little logo for putting up with this insanity.
It would still be cheaper for Microsoft than hiring people to deal with this
nonsense. And besides, anyone who took the job would quit after two weeks.

Sheesh. Doesn't anyone in here understand the concept of "learn"?

"Oh how we long for outlook express [sic]". Gimme a break.

that was certainly refreshing.

A house in the Hamptons sounds inviting. <G>

To be politically correct, use the term Technologically Challenged
instead of Technologically Insane. :-)
What is frustrating to me is that the ones asking for help
obviously haven't bothered to read the many answers that
already cover their issue.
There's something selfish about wanting to use up an expert's
limited time without using up any of your own time.
