hey everyone
im new here so i dont know if i am right here :)

im writing websites myself and downloaded SmartFTP but it is only a free trial not a full version

i learned html, css in school and learned javascript by myself and also started with cmd and batch files a little

now my question i want to learn how to use ftp.exe (find under: start>>run>>ftp) i was able to connect and disconnect to my account but i dont know how to upload some stuff i just found ftp.exe today so i want to ask if someone could tell me some basics for example how to upload files, delete them, change their names.....

Where do you have any web space?

If you're just interacting with third parties' web space you will need their details to set up accounts within the software.

There are free ftp programs out that work well by the way, all quite legal too :)
 
im using both are for free because i dont want to pay for webspace or anything im still learning all those things and dont need a better webhosting.

i want to upload .htm .html .css .js .jpg .gif .png .php files
for host-ed.net it is included to upload and manage the files after logging in but for kilu.de it first was too but now they changed it and i need to use ftp

I am new to ftp since 3 days i downloaded SmartFTP but now i want to learn FTP.exe

If you have no web space or server then can't really help you.

Nothing is for nothing.

Are you trying to push an agenda here?
 
i do have some webspace but it is not that big and does not have many extras thats what i tried to say
sorry if it was not clear

ok i will try to explain everything again:
i have an account on the two websites i said. They both provide a small free webspace so i can upload my html files. After I log in I can see all my files and upload more or delete them for the http://*******.net account. http://*****.de provided this service too but now they changed it so you have to use FTP. I found SmartFTP as a 30 day trial version and i will use it for that time. I found FTP.exe on my computer and want to learn how to do it with it. I can log on to my accounts with FTP.exe but i dont know how to upload and manage my files. I wanted to use this after my trial version is over. Sorry dont have any experience with those things. What i asked for if anyone could please tell me the basic commands for ftp.exe

I've never used FTP.exe so can't help you but most ftp software is more or less self-explanatory in how to use.

It's usually your computer on the left, web space on the right, click on arrows to transfer files either way.
 
oh ok thanks anyways

ya the software is easier to use i had no problems with SmartFTP but FTP.exe is like cmd. Its basics commands and it is in every computer. Go to Start>>run>>(type)cmd a black window will open and than you can start typing your commands.

If you never used it - its not a software that explains itself like many programs do. Open notepad type:
start
ftp
than save as name.bat on the desktop. Click on this file and two black windows will open one will just show ftp> and then you type the other will show C:/Users/Name/Desktop>
if you type in the cmd (second) window mkdir example and hit enter you will get a new folder on the desktop and the same way ftp.exe works but i dont know their commands.

Ok maybe im gonna look for another software for free fullversion might be easier

Why not just use something like Filezilla which makes the process sooooo much easier and quicker?

Using ftp.exe is so long winded tbh. ;)
