MS calls its file browser "Explorer". MS calls its internet browser
"Internet Explorer". IE can be used as a good browser of HTML over internet
and as local a file explorer. But FTP support is so poor (awful) that we
have to use third-party tools to navigate files over internet. Does anybody
agree? Will MS improve their FTP support in IE?

Anoyone who knows can't tell.
There are plenty of free FTP programs. I use FTP eplorer. search on Google
for it.

Maybe you don't have the FTP feature turned on. Go to
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > check Enable
folder view for FTP sites

It does most of the (little) FTP that I want - due to security issues, FTP is
mostly only useful for anonymous one-way distribution of files - which can
also be done via HTTP. We mostly use SSH instead.
There are indeed many other FTP client programs (many are free) that do a
better job at many FTP tasks. Why should Microsoft bother reinventing that
wheel, too?
The idea that a web browser should also do something/anything else is part of
what causes the bloat we see in applications. I suppose that it should also
edit your documents, check your mail, and wash your dog, too?

If they are going to spend any time "improving" IE, I would rather see the
effort put into properly supporting existing HTTP standards, and Javascript
which has become (for good or bad) a widely-used "standard" on web pages.
