Does anyone have easy to follow directions to set up an FTP server on a home
network? I'd like to be able upload and download some files to/from my home
computer when not at home.

Or is there another solution?

Thanks.

FTP is pretty insecure. You might consider running a SSH server on a home PC
and using a free SFTP client like WinSCP as an alternative.

Another alternative is to setup a Windows Home Server (WHS) using an old
spare PC or purchasing a new WHS. Personally I do the former, ie. use an old
spare PC as my WHS. I have a secure SSL connection into my WHS from remote
sites for file access.

Lastly another free SSL VPN solution like SSL-Explorer may be a good option.
