Do any FTP gurus know how to make the FTP service function through a
Linksys router? I can't see any parameters for passing the external IP
address to a client.

Note, I am looking to make this quick and dirty. It isn't going to be a
permanent server. It will just be turned on now and then for convenience.

If it is one of the broadband routers they usually have some form of NAT service. You can specify on the router itself
where to direct requests based on port number. I.E. You give out the ip address of the router (given by the broadband
company) and then attach to port 21 on that ip and the router will redirect it to the machine behind it that is supposed
to get those requests.

In order to do this you need a couple of things...

first, you need to have a static IP address so you can fwd the FTP port you
are using.

second, you can either go to your router config and get your WAN ip address
or go to various other sites and get a dynamic dns.I use no-ip because it
runs as a service. (www.no-ip.com)

Now you simply type in your dynamic dns name...me.no-ip.com and your fwd'ed
to your router.

Ah. I see. Hmm if Alun were here he could say how to handle this. If I
recall there is a mode to put the FTP Server into
which changes how it handles the interconnections and makes it so that the
server does the work. I'll see if I can find
one of his previous posts concerning this.
