Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but
I don't know of a better place in Usenet.

I'm trying to connect to a site via FTP. I've tried both the FTP
command in my DOS prompt window, and CuteFTP, an FTP application.
Although someone I'm working with is able to connect from her site
without a problem, I cannot - it won't accept my login. I'm able to
connect to the site, but it rejects the password. (The other person
who is able to do it successfully is using the same ID and password.)

I *am* able to FTP to my ISP's FTP site on sonic.net with no
problems, so I don't have a general connectivity problem on my PC. I
just can't get to this specific site. I don't think this is a problem
with being unauthorized, since as I said, I'm using the same ID and
password as the person who is able to FTP just fine from her PC.

Any suggestions as to what else I might check for problems?

Again, I apologize if this is not the right place for this issue -
if you know of a better newsgroup for it, please let me know.

Thanks,
J. Wermont

sounds like your ip address has been blocked.
you may have hammered the server in question.
(conecting too often....each server is set up by the admin. for how often
you can connect.)

Well, you're right that I probably have hammered the server - I've tried
to get on about 20 times today! But that wouldn't explain why it didn't
let me on to begin with...

Anyway, thanks for the newsgroup pointer, I'll see what they have to say.

hammering the server will depend on which software you use for ftp.
internet explorer is bad for hammering servers without the users knowing
