I need help. I have a Unix server and I have Windows
2000. I need to "upload" information from Unix to Windows
and have been told I need to FTP it. I can't find for the
life of me how to do this. I have looked everywhere and
am getting more and more confused. When I do a search, I
find that I do have FTP folders, but they are all empty.
I have a pretty good grasp of computers, but for some
reason, this feels way too deep for me. Please help!!!
The boss is riding me on getting this done. Thanks in
advance and please just reply to the e-mail in this
newsgroup.

To make it easy, you could get an FTP client like CuteFTP or something -
altho if you can connect to the FTP server in explorer, you can set the view
to show ftp folders in "explorer" view. Where is the FTP server you're
trying to upload to?

The article below will tell you how to install and setup your server as a
FTP server.

After you set this up then you can FTP the files to the Windows Server

Leslie,

I believe you will need to look in the Control Panel and
see if you have the FTP Services installed under IIS in
Windows components. If not you will need to install them
which is very easy. Then in the IIS manager you can setup
a directory to upload you files to. You can then initiate
FTP on the UNIX Server and login to the Windows server and
upload your files either through the command line
the "put" command or using a browser.

He's got an ftp server on the Unix box it seems. He shouldn't need one
of the Windows as well.

The original post didn't make it to my server, so I'm guessing on the
basis of what has been quoted from other posts, but my guess is that
what he/she sees on the Unix box with ftp isjust his/her home
directories and that he/she has been chroot gaoled there. This is
normal, of course, but it will let him/her upload files only to those
directories. If he/she needs access to the full filesystem, he/she
will have to talk nicely to the Unix Sysadmin.

Cheers,

Cliff
