Hey all, and great fortunes.

I'm looking for a good ftp client that suits these select few criteria:
1)NOT SmartFTP(all i found topics about in forums..)
2)suitable for educational enviroment
3)easy to get-into for novices(friendly)
4)EASY, no unneccasary settings and such> Just Install & Upload
5)Free!! preferably GNU License
So go ahead, throw em at me. I know everyone of you prolby has a favorite.

Well if SmartFTP is too hard then I can only recomend Konqueror ... you will need to install Linux to use it though.

:)

smartFTP is not TOO hard, but some students are 50+ novices.
excessive settings are scary, and they wont play with it.

leechftp is very very cool, with helpful context menus
and ftp surfer alllows remote editing of files, which is quite handy.

So sarcasm is nice, but any real suggestions would be apprreciated much more.

WSFTP is free and quite easy - but for something simple it might be worth using Internet Explorer in FTP mode? Not many features, but really easy :)

thanks Ian,
IE is one way the students will be shown, and mmost will prolly use.
I'll play around with your recommendation and see if it's something the more advanced students will like.,

Personally I use Ipswitch WS_FTP Pro 2006 (although comes with a license fee), I have also loved Flash FXP in the past, but have not looked back since discovering WS_FTP Pro.

Although you did mention you were looking for FREE software. There are many free FTP clients, although obviously some are bettere than others. While researching FTP clients for myself a while back, there were 2 free ones that stood out to me which are:

Ace FTP (freeware), available from http://software.visicommedia.com/en/products/aceftpfreeware/

Filezilla (freeware), available from http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

both of which are fairly easy to use, and are pretty much useable straight after installation.

Hope that helps your search.
