hello

i have a setup were computers are connected to a central router which the
latter is then connected to an adsl modem. i am hosting an ftp on one of
these computers but for obvious reasons i cannot access it due to the
router's nat and firewall.

i have disabled firewall but nothing else...

what can i do to allow access to my ftp server? port forwarding? thanks

You need to understand how to set up "port forwarding" on your
router. Most routers assign private IP addresses (DHCP or "static"
assigned) to every computers connected to it. These private IP
addesses (ex: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254) can never be seem
directly off the Internet. You need to set up a method of
transferring the FTP requests from the router to the FTP "server."
Depending on the route's make, you need to set up port forwarding or
virtual server.

Here are some sites to help:

If you can't figure out these simple things I strongly suggest you NOT
run an FTP. It's a recipe for somebody to seriously screw with your
systems.
