Hi...
My vendor says I have to configure my MSIE to access FTP sites.
How do I go about to do just that?

Windows XP Pro with all updates.

IE is configured for FTP access by default.

It is?
I got this link from Macromedia after buying Studio 8, and when I paste it
into my browser it times out. The mail from the Macromedia support says that
if I am in a network I should configure my MSIE to access FTP sites.

I have this wireless network here at home with the firewall shut down. A

Can the fault be in the wireless network?

As Frank said IE works as ftp client by default, the problem is it just
"doesn't work very well".
Try to open ftp://ftp.microsoft.com. Didn't work? Then you might try to
persuade him a little to work > open IE, go to Tools > Internet Options >
Advanced and uncheck the box "Use passive FTP". That should work :)

Thank you...
Now the ftp://ftp.microsoft.com works fine...but the link to Macromedia did
not.
However, after making the suggested change in MSIE I redownloaded the Studio
8 files from my account at Macromedia, and the installation went just fine
without the mishap of any CRC error at all.
Maybe your soltution did work after all... :-)

Again thank you.

I'd say it was most likely the cause of your problem. You see, when you use
ftp in active mode, the server is the one that initiates & controls the data
transfer. Since Windows Firewall by default blocks incoming connections,
passive mode is used to avoid firewall problems. The thing is, not all the
servers support passive transfer, mostly due to security reasons or lack of
software support. Active transfer however requires that you are able to
change settings of your firewall - which might not always be possible (PC at
work, for example). Just leave it at active, enable ftp in firewall and you
shouldn't experience these problems again..
