This _could_ lead to a withdrawel of some of Rambus patents,
and possibly claims from memory manufacturers.

Rambus just had a settlement with Hynix recently. How is this going to
affect their settlement? There's been so much stuff going for Rambus and
so much going against it, I can't even track it anymore.

Beautiful! Matches what I've been saying for years. I wonder how
"Tim Sillivan" (John Corse) is taking this bit of news.

I see RMBS is down from $18 on Monday to $13.20 today. Poor
JC^H^HTim... 8)

So at the end of the day who is "dead, _dead_, DEAD"? If RMBS's
patents and license agreements are nullified, RMBS will go belly up
pretty soon.

To be fair, they *have* been doing quite well, not to mention honestly,
with selling their valid IP as solutions with (I assume) engineering
expertise, e.g. XDR for Cell (we never heard any $$ mentioned for that one
:-)) and AMD's license... plus a few others. If they forgo the
dry-gulching mentality and quit trying to hold mfrs up for ransom they
could do quite well.

Now that Danforth is gone -- a victim of options back-dating? [ouch] --
we'll have to see if they are developing a new corporate image.

I don't think that FTC will carry much weight with the patent office,
sure I hope some patents get revoked, or written off. At the end of
the day, it's going to be business as usual. Just look at the
broadcast flag, it's still in contention, so I doubt the FTC will make
much difference. Like most things in the US government, or the UN it
could be dead on arival.

It seems that having problems with one's options is common just look at
the local headlines for Apple.

Rambus ruling a boost to chipmakers
"Chung said Hynix might find a way not to pay any penalties in the
patent infringement lawsuit brought by Rambus. Chipmakers might be able
to avoid paying royalties to Rambus as a result of the new ruling."
