My fileserver crashed yesterday and i wasnt able to gain access to the
administrators profile or any profile for that matter. So i was not able to
run DCPROMO to domote the server and i was not able to transfer the FSMO
roles. I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled server 2000 joining the
server to my exisiting domain (jowett.com) On my domain sits an exchange
server.
I have managed to transfer the PDC, IM to my exchange server, but i am
trying to transfer the RID, Schema Master and Domain Naming Master to my
newly installed server but of course its saying "The current role holder can
not be contacted (which was the crashed server mentioned above)" I have also
enabled my newly installed fileserver as the GC.
How do i force the transfer? Some people say "seize" the roles but how can i
do that when the crashed server doesnt exisit because i formatted it?
I am also having a problem getting the Exchange Information Store to start
could this be related to the FSMO roles or the GC
Thanks
