i wonder if anyone can help. really appreciate it.
i have 2 servers. COCO/SILLY. COCO being the main DC. Currently the RID
Operational Master was accidentally set to the other server. However that
machine is having some hardware problem and needs to be shut down. Now I
cannot change back the RID back. DCDIAG shows the above. Is it possible to
manually edit that with ADSI?

THX for the info. Yes I tried to grab the role before demoting SILLY to a
member server. That didn't work. So I demoted it anyway. Then I promoted it
back. Try to grab the role. Didn't work.

Now I tried the method you suggested. That seems to work. Currently SILLY
remains a member server. Let's see how it functions within the AD when I
promote it soon.

It looks like Silly has been deleted/removed from the domain. You might
need to do a metadata Cleanup to remove it - assuming that this is what you
want to do. You would then need to seize any roles that Silly held ( in
this case, the RID Master ). You can do this with the ntdsutil utility.
