Dear Colleagues:
I am in the process of transferring two FSMO roles, a Schema Master and a
Domain Naming master and wanted to get some general advise before doing so
in terms of best practices, what other roles should not be held by the
Schema Master and Domain naming master as well as the best way to move these
roles utility-wise (please note, I am not a big command-line person, so GUIs
are my first preference - so call me whimpy!).
There is no "seizing" involved here and all servers holding any FSMO roles
are up and running so this moving is strictly voluntary in nature. This is
a single domain model with no child domains etc., and about the only thing
extraordinary here is the fact that I have both 2003 and 2000 servers in
place. The 2003 boxes hold all the FSMO roles at present and I intend to
keep things this way for eventual phase-outs of the 2000 servers.
Any advise with regards to moving the Schema Master and Domain Naming Master
roles would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time in advance,
The Flying Dutchman
