I have been using FS9 for a couple of years now and all the sudden I am
getting an error message when I start it up saying I am low on memory, try
using disk cleanup to free up some memory. I have defragged my computer, I
have 25 GB of freespace left in my memory. Can anyone help?

How much actual RAM is available? Any being used by video accelerator?

Install any scenery or aircraft just before problem started occurring?

Install any new hardware or update any device drivers before problem
started?

Tried shutting down background applications?

POST still showing full memory available?

Ran a memory test application to make sure RAM is good?

I have 25 GB of memory left, not sure about any being used bt video
accelerator. I didn't install any scenery or aircraft recently, I installed
a new program but I flew after that and it worked fine. I started my
computer with nothing else running, I also defragged, ran disk cleanup, tried
deleting most of my flights I had saved in flight simulator files. How do I
run a memory test?

There's actual electronic RAM, usually in the form of narrow circuit
boards plugged into long sockets on the computer's main circuit board.
Then there's virtual memory, usually in the form of a hard disk file
referred to as a "page file" or "swap file". Windows works best with
RAM, but often uses virtual memory when programs need quantities of
storage in excess of the electronic RAM present. The virtual memory is
significantly slower than RAM, adds to hard disk wear, may drain
notebook computer batteries faster and may contribute to the generation
of more heat inside the computer.

Some video accelerators, especially accelerators integrated into
computer motherboards, use multiple megabytes of the electronic RAM.

Many computers report the quantity of operational electronic RAM before
they attempt to load the Windows Operating System (OS) or Linux,
whichever is installed. This message is often a part of the Power On
Self Test (POST).

Windows and many Windows based applications require some storage that
CAN NOT be shifted over to virtual memory. In some cases that data can
only be stored in specific portions of RAM that are in limited supply,
even on computers with LOTS of RAM. Occasionally a hardware malfunction
OR software problem adversely affects the availability of that
specialized section of RAM.

There have been reports of Microsoft Flight Simulator not releasing
memory it no longer needs for the automatically generated buildings and
trees. This problem is supposed to be alleviated by the patch available
on Microsoft's site. There have also been reports of problems resulting
from certain flight simulator add on scenery files being placed in the
wrong folder by their automated installers.
